Westminster judge liked wire-haired Doxie best

in Champion Dachshunds

As the Daily Dachshund and Dog News reported earlier this week, a Dachshund has never won the coveted Westminster best in show title. The highest-placing Doxie last year was the wire-haired wiener dog Scoshire Famous Amos who made it to fourth in the hounds group, losing that title to Celestial Cj’s Jolly Fairchild, a Petits Bassets Griffons Vendeen. We confess that we’d never even heard of that breed until now. It’s time for a popular dog breed to take the title — and at the very least win the hounds group.

Say it loud and say it proud: Dachshunds, Dachshunds, Dachshunds!!!

Does the “publisher” of this “news” site even own a dachshund? I thought she owned Scotties?

I have Dachshunds are in the family and, frankly, Scotties have won enough Westminster titles.

I’m rooting for the underdog.

Although if it came down to a Doxie vs. Scottie final, I’d root for the Scotties.

You may have heard that breed called “the PBGB”. I first heard it a few years ago.

I remember about ten or so years ago a cute wire-haired dachshund won a national dog show. He had a vaguely western name like “Cactus Sam” or something like that. Can’t remember which show it was, though.

PBGB does ring a bell but I may be thinking of PBJ.

Will try and find out more on Cactus Sam. Thanks for the tip.

I have watched a few shows and the PBGV seems to be a favorite. Though I never heard of one until then but they do seem to have a great personality.

I have also noticed in the years that I have been watching dog shows Wire Haired Dachshunds seem to be the breed favorite…and often get pulled over the other 2 coats.

Yes, I’ve noticed they do seem to prefer the wirehairs. That certainly seems to support the idea that the judges tend to favour more unusual dogs.

Didn’t handler Frank Hardy place in the group at Westminster with a smooth standard of the Stalter’s circa 1960s?
