Many thanks to the reader who tipped us off to this amazing story of a Michigan woman accused of failing to pick her four dachshunds’ poop. The Jesus statue on her front lawn disappeared and she receved the following ransom note:
We are holding Jesus ransom until you clean up the poopie from your wieners and trust us we see you take your wieners for long walks w/out picking up their poopie in our yards. This has upset us dearly so please clean up all the weiner poopie, if you want to see Jesus unharmed. Sincerely, Lindy Lane Residents.
WZZM in Grand Rapids is aking viewers if they think stealing the Jesus statue an appropriate response to alleged dog leavings? At the Daily Dachshund and Dog News, we prefer to ask: “What would Jesus do if a dog pooped on his lawn?”

Update: Jesus was returned, but that’s our only spoiler. You’ll have to read the entire article to find out who did it. Here’s some video footage from before the Jesus statue was resurrected:

Doppelgangers by Dmitri Gudkov
Dachshunds ranked the number three most popular dog in New York city, better than their national ranking of number seven on the AKC’s 2007 list of top dogs but down from 2004 when they were the Big Apple’s favourite dog. Don’t let anyone tell you New York’s not a tough town.

Los Angeles dog artist Moira McLaughlin looks at the presidential candidates and asks: If they were dogs, what kind of dogs would they be?
No one gets compared to a Dachshund, but, then again, maybe that’s a good thing.

Oh dear, more Dachshund crime. This time, surveillance cameras in Pembroke Pines, Florida were rolling when two young women pulled Dachshund and Shih tzu puppies from their cages at a pet store. Total value of the heist would have been $2,000 but a tip led police to the puppynappers. Go watch the pet shop video.

While the Texas governor’s mansion in Austin is being renovated and repaired, Rick Perry, his wife and Dachshund, Lucy, have moved to an exclusive gated community where the rent is $9,900 per month (as opposed to $10,000) and where they don’t let you off the $1,800 pet deposit even if you’re the governor.
This seems a little unreasonable to the Daily Dachshund and Dog News team, which had never even heard of pet deposits. Calling all Texans to the comments section.
