Once again, the Daily Dachshund and Dog News is delving into the annals of wiener dog history and heading back to 1933 whence the Spokane Daily Chronicle reported on why the Dachshund had became so popular. Among other things, it notes that the Dachshund “fits under the lowest of modern chairs.”

A friend of pet lover Nicky Walton, a farm assistant in Gloucestershire, entered a photo of her and her three-year-old Dachshund, Tyler, in a national pet lookalike competition in England. “The resemblance is remarkable, as they have the same flowing auburn hair and deep brown eyes,” reads the description.
Nicky said: “I’ve had Tyler since he was a puppy and he follows me around wherever I go. He’s certainly top dog at home and always has to sit on my lap at night. He’s very loving and loyal, and has me wrapped around his paw!”
Not necessarily a competition I’d want to win but congratulations Nicky and Tyler. You’re both hotties.

It seems that Doxie thieves are not that bright, whether they are in Florida or across the pond in Shoebury, Essex where the” burglars next door” are believed to have opened an unlocked back door during the night and stolen 11-week-old Rolo, who is worth some £600.
The local newspaper, the Echo, reported:
Following a plea for help, the family received an anonymous tip-off from a person who told them the address of where tiny Rolo could be found.
Caroline, a mum-of-two, added: “When we got the phone call from the person telling us where the dog was living, it was just around the corner from us.
“We informed the police about the update, but they said it was not a priority. I was desperate to get Rolo back and one of my friends said he would go round and get her back for us.
Hmm, is there a trend here? The police in Britain certainly appear to be awfully lame when it comes to stolen pets.

The Grand Rapids Press reports:
While other kids his age are attending proms and learning to drive, confessed dog killer Jonathan Castelan will be spending his high school years in prison.
For the first time in the three months since Castelan, 15, used a hammer to fatally bludgeon an 8-pound dachshund named Pinto, the dog’s owners heard an apology from the teenage killer, sentenced to spend three to 20 years in prison.

For Mary and Willy Cromie of Kinnelon, it all began last Friday when their wiener dog Bailey was frightened by a big dog outside a West Milford kennel and set off running along Route 23 Friday morning. Luckily, there was a happy ending.

The Troy Messenger reports that veterinarians suspect Jim Berdeaux’ pet Bella was deliberately burned:
“We all loved her,” Berdeaux said. “It just breaks my heart to think that she might have been lying there burned liked that for four, six or eight hours. Bella was one of those dogs that went running, wagging her tail when somebody spoke to her. Why anybody would want to set a sweet dog like Bella on fire – barbecue her – defies humanity.”
In an effort to find out what happened to Bella, if she were intentionally set on fire or something else tragic happened to her, the Berdeaux family is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the alleged act.
The Humane Society of Pike County has committed another $500 toward the reward.
Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact the Pike County Sheriff’s Department at 566-4347.

We don’t mean to be a downer with this story, but rather to call your attention to the threat of coyotes. The Calgary Sun reports:
Quinn Kliewer, 21, and a friend were biking near the 14 St. parking lot at Nose Hill Park with five dogs — two dachshunds, a border collie pup, German shepherd pup and a plott hound — following behind when the coyotes suddenly attacked about 1 p.m.
“We were biking through the trees and one of the wiener dogs that was at the end of the line, I couldn’t see him then I could hear him screaming,” said Kliewer.
“I went back to see what happened to him and he was gone.
Here’s some of the Daily Dachshund‘s past coyote coverage, but be aware that it’s not for the faint hearted.

The Larimer Humane Society is still looking for Stewie, a miniature dachshund that has been missing since his owner was involved in a fatal car crash last Wednesday morning. Stewie is believed to be roaming an area just south of where the crash occurred on Larimer County Road 19, about a half mile south of Trilby Road and near the Coyote Ridge Natural Area.
Here’s an earlier report on the crash.
