Scratch Ankle the Dachshund was alive and kicking at 25 last March, but unfortunately we can’t access the article which would likely tell us if he made it through the year. Here’s are previous coverage of long-lived wiener dogs. And here’s to Scratch ankle’s good health.

Pet dog sniffs out drug stash

Hmmm, the Scottie News notices that the police aren’t giving out any information as to the identity of the pet dog who sniffed out the drug stash. Maybe they’re worried about irate drug dealers taking revenge on an innocent canine.

We first reported on Jack earlier this year. He’s the Dachshund that ran so fast Wiener Dog Race officials demanded to see his papers to make sure he was 100% Dachshund and not some kind of Greyhound hybrid. Here’s an update on his training regime as he prepares for Thursday’s Wienerschnitzel Nationals.

Update: Alas, Jack did not win.

An Ohio man, who shot and killed his neighbours’ dog, says he did it to protect his miniature Dachshund. The Clark County Humane Society thinks he used unnecessary force.

Short and sweet (both the video and the dogs):

A silly Christmas bear, who doesn’t know what he’s missing, plays hard to get;

A song all about Dylan the Piebald Dachshund to be sung to the tune of Rudoph the Red Nosed Reindeer:

Dylan the piebald dachshund
had some very spotted fur
and when people called him ‘beagle’
all he could do is ‘grrr’

The entire song is here plus photos of Dylan the muse. Here’s the Daily Doxie‘s previous piebald coverage.

Bandit the Dachshund took second place in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram‘s pet weight loss competition. Bandit, who now weighs 21.9 pounds, lives in a nursing home where everyone used to sneak him treats not to mention midnight snacks of cat food. The Daily Dachshund and Dog News’ previous coverage of the Biggest Loser contest can be found here and here.

And while we’re on the subject of weight, here’s a photo of a completely unrelated Doxie, Link, with his shirtless owner. We wanted to keep up the Daily Doxie tradition of showcasing topless men and their Dachshunds be they famous artists and TV stars or just plain regular guys.

No this is not the National Enquirer. It really happened to Lilly the Dachshund in South Africa:

“The giant python’s body was already curled around my dog, four times. Lilly’s head was inside its jaws, and the reptile was starting to swallow her,” said Elske.

After fighting off the snake, giving some mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and taking the injured pup for emergency veterinary care, Elske was rewarded when Lilly fully recovered and gave birth to six pups.

Greyhound rescuers pose nude

by AnnB on December 18, 2007 · 0 comments

in Whimsical Dachshunds

These days, you’re nobody if you haven’t done a naked calendar so it’s not all that surprising that greyhound rescuers doffed their clothes to produce a 2008 calendar, the proceeds of which will go to support Greyhound rescue. You can order a calendar and see more photos of nude women with dogs here.

Dachshund rescuers, what do you think? Maybe next year? In the mean time, we’ll continue our Dachshunds-with-scantily-clad-humans series by offering up this peek of Jane, the comic heroine who, along with Fritz the Dachshund, “kept British soldiers smiling through their gloomiest hours.”
